St Anthony's Catholic Primary School - Completed December 2017
PSLA provided a full design service from consultation with staff and children through to concept, detailed design and construction supervision.
The site had exceptional leadership and a strong community participation with an underlying sustainable ethos.
The brief was to design outdoor learning areas with nature play experiences that supported a new Environmental and Technologies classroom but also provided a breakout space from adjacent classrooms.
The space caters for outdoor learning by providing whole of class seating nodes and smaller more intimate spaces for small group and individual learning. The site also supports a Stephanie Alexander Garden, chicken run and aquatic pond. Sustainable technology is embraced with a small wind turbine that provides education power to the Environmental Classroom; and a Wifi weather station is positioned in the space that children can monitor and chart seasonal weather variances.
Nature play in the form of gross motor organic challenges, natural and junk loose parts play, creative sand and water play, loose pebble creek play are integrated throughout the space meaning kids are always engaged in open ended play and learning possibilities.
